Three new City of SeaTac Councilmembers sworn in

Newly elected City Councilmembers Iris Guzmán, Mohammed Egal and Jake Simpson were sworn in at City Hall by City Clerk Kristina Gregg. On Nov. 23, King County Elections certified Simpson as the winner for Council Position 2, Mohammed Egal as Council Position 4 and Iris Guzmán as Council Position 6.

Jake Simpson, was previously sworn in at the Nov. 23 Regular Council to fill an unexpired term ending December 31, 2021. All three will serve full-terms starting Jan.1, 2022 – Dec. 31, 2025.

Extra waste is an unfortunate result of some holiday traditions. To take the mystery out of what can and can’t be recycled at home this holiday season, King County has these earth-friendly tips to get rid of holiday waste.

Holiday String Lights: Do you have a pile of burned-out holiday lights? Are you planning to replace old holiday lights with energy-efficient LED lights? Don't throw out old lights – recycle them! If you buy new, energy-efficient holiday lights during after Christmas sales, ask your retailer if they accept used lights, or visit one of the many light recycling locations in the Puget Sound region. Strings of lights cannot be recycled in a curbside bin.

Mayor Elect Harrell announces a change in SDOT leadership

Today, Seattle Mayor-elect Bruce Harrell released the following statement:

“Today, I am announcing that when I take office in January, I will be making a change in Seattle Department of Transportation leadership. We will embark on a robust national search for a new director who is aligned with my vision for this critical department. As we embark on that search, I will appoint SDOT Chief of Staff Kristen Simpson to serve as interim director. Kristen has let me know that she will not be applying for the permanent position.

Recipients of Neighborhood Economic Recovery grants announced
West Seattle Junction Association and Chamber of Commerce plus Ballard Alliance awarded grants

Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan and the Seattle Office of Economic Development announced the grant recipients of the Neighborhood Economic Recovery Fund on Thursday Dec. 16.

The West Seattle Junction Association was awarded $100,000 under the program and Executive Director Chris MacKay provided the wording that was used in the application for the grant.

The Land Use Application to build a seven story mixed use apartment building in the West Seattle Junction has been filed with the Seattle Department of Construction and Inspections. It's been revised from 96 units to 88

A seven story, 96 unit apartment building proposed for the West Seattle Junction, just adjacent to the West Seattle Senior Center at 4448 California Ave SW is the subject of a design review meeting.

The building will provide no parking.

It is Project Number: 3037829.
