Orchard Street Ravine Trail dedicated
After two years of planning and planting, the 2.2 acre Orchard Street Ravine Trail opened Saturday, October 11. Mayor Nickels, Parks Superintendent Timothy Gallagher, Councilmember Tom Rasmussen, and others spoke to a small but enthusiastic crowd of nature lovers and volunteers who helped shape the park.

Swap Meet opens it's doors in White Center
The former Southgate Skate Center is now the Southgate Event Center, and has begun to hold indoor weekend swap meets. The enormous building, with 16,000 square feet of floor space with over 80 booths, at 9646 17th Avenue SW, but the establishment needs more vendors. Each booth costs $40 per day, half price for area merchants.

Walk to School Day shows safe routes
The message to Alki Elementary School children at Bar-S Playfield Wednesday morning was "Walk this way and nobody gets hurt." That's because it was International Walk to School Day and a safety march from the play field to Alki School was organized. Parents and children marched the six blocks with Mayor Nickels in tow, who was later to announce his "2009 Safe Routes to School" sites at Sanislo Elementary School.
