The Southwest Precinct Station opened in March 2003, fulfilling a needed hub for not only West Seattle beat cops but area crime prevention in general. Response time is greatly improved with the new station. The $11 million building is open 24 hours, however the front desk is staffed from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Precinct commander Capt. Jim Pryor knows the area well, having graduated from West Seattle High School. The precinct houses 95 officers and staff. Personnel include patrol officers, community police officers, anti-crime team officers, a school resource officer, a community service officer, a crime-prevention coordinator and administrative support. The facility serves West Seattle and Georgetown residents.
