Fauntleroy

Friday, July 04, 2008

This hamlet that lies beyond Lincoln Park also hosts the eastern terminus of a Washington State Ferry run. The quiet cove often shudders at the exodus of Fauntleroy Ferry Terminal traffic but neighborhood activists and ferry officials working together (as well as a few well-placed traffic cops) have created a peaceful coexistence.

Fauntleroy shops and services include a bakery, restaurants, community church and a popular YMCA program. A community festival brings neighbors together each fall. Neighboring Lincoln Park is another citywide destination with its great beachfront paved trail and heated-saltwater Colman Pool. At 135 acres, the park features nearly every recreational amenity while still allowing its evergreen overhang and interspersing trails to take day hikers away from the hustle.
